94. The United States or Canada? Which country is better for immigration. Part 3. Canada. Questions and answers.
The issue of choosing immigration to the US or Canada. Ambitiousness of Canadians and Americans, a question of sporting achievements. Building a career in the US and Canada.
If we talk about the pluses of both countries – Canada and the United States – there is a very important point for people who have the choice to go to America, to Canada or, maybe, to France, Germany, Italy or England. The fact is that both the US and Canada are countries created from immigrants, so when you come to live, say, to Germany, then you are not German, if to France, then you are not a Frenchman. If you come to England, you will be looked at as though through a magnifying glass, mentally asking: “You understand that you are not an Englishman, you will never be to them, because it is England, it consists of Englishmen, and you remember, that you are not so. ”
Here this factor, that you are not Canadian, not American, does not exist. Who is an American? It is a cast from some large number of other nationalities and cultures. American can be Arab, Uzbek, Hindu, Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, German, French – anyone. The same goes for the Canadian. There is no concept of “Canadian”, because it is anyone who came and lives in Canada. This is a very big difference.
What is more profitable: to buy a house in Canada or rent it? Simple arithmetic.
I received letters from people who live in Germany for 20-25 years, and they say that “we do not recognize the Germans, we are not Germans for them, but Russians”. You can live in Germany for 50 years and still will be Russian – in Canada this is not. For example, I live in my penthouse, I have a Canadian on my right behind the wall, in my opinion, of Italian origin; to the left – an Englishman and a Scot. And there is no difference in terms of “Canadian – non-Canadian”.
This is a very important point, if you want to feel comfortable, because in Canada no one can approach you and say: “You do not command here, and especially do not raise your voice, because I am Canadian and you are not.” For example, you came from Italy 50 years ago with your family and now speak flawlessly in English; and I arrived the day before yesterday, but you are the same immigrant as I am, – the difference between us in 50 years – that’s all. There is no other factor.
What is the difference between the US and Canada? I would say this: if you are a young man who is determined to make money, a career, to a huge growth, then you most likely need to go to America, because in terms of business there are more opportunities, higher salaries. For example, if you take a programmer, then he can receive significantly more money in America than in Canada (there are, of course, exceptions). Suppose, in the world of cinema, almost 20-25% of Hollywood actors from Canada (I’m exaggerating a little, but still). If you are a talented actor and want to realize yourself, then in the US you have much more opportunities for this. Many famous music artists and composers of Canada – Terri Clark, for example – go to America and make their career there. You certainly know more about contemporary music than I do, and you know how many Canadian musicians and performers live in the US.
At the same time, if you have a family, and you are focused on raising your children in some quiet and very comfortable country, then this is certainly Canada. In this sense, it is much softer, more tolerant, calmer, slower (in a good sense of the word); this is a very flat landscape country.
I’m already over 50, and at my age I feel very comfortable in Canada, because for me it’s in a pleasant, good condition, a quiet country. When I come to America, and I often go there, especially if I am in New York, my hair becomes on end, because again for me it is a completely crazy rhythm that knocks down. When you go by car, then hold onto the steering wheel firmly with both hands, for taxi drivers pass millimeters from your car; some eerie wholly motion, speed is a terrible enough condition.
But, as I said before, if you are looking for a career, money, then this is the USA. You do not have time to go to America – you see that this is some kind of “huge printing press” for the production of money and products. And in this sense, the difference between the US and Canada is visible. We have half the American television channels, half of such franchises as Walmart, – the same; even Tim Hortons, our famous Canadian brand, has now become American. And all the other stores: Best Buy, Future Shop (it was a Canadian brand – the Americans bought it) – yes, in general, wherever you look, 70% are American brands. Business itself and the economy are rotating in America with great speed.
What I like about Americans is ambitiousness. Canadians do not have enough. If you look, for example, the Olympic Games, then there often in the first places the Americans, although, I think that financially contain athletes are equally capable of Canadians, that Americans; and there are many more rich countries like France, Italy, Germany, etc. That is, they are American ambitions: we are the best, we are the strongest, we will all “do”, catch up and overtake – a little aggressively, maybe , but this gives the result.
If we talk about business, then its Americans are able to put not only in themselves, but in the whole world. We use the IPhone, all the largest computer programs are developed in the US. Microsoft, Apple, Macintosh, Oracle are all American companies. Canadians in this sense are in the wake of the Americans.
Arguing about the sport, I can say that the Canadians, in my opinion, are too polite in this area and inferior to the Americans. Canadians need to be sometimes more aggressive (in a good sense of the word), evil, assertive, etc.
In general, my attitude towards America is quite positive. Since we go to the US regularly, the border crossing takes – I mean the conversation with the border guard itself – one or two minutes, that is, we are asked where we are going, and when we return. We say that we go for three or four hours for shopping and come back, after which we are given a smile with a document and wish a happy journey. For us, the US is a very comfortable country, because on the one hand we are traveling abroad, on the other, it is the same English language we speak at home.
We are not externally distinguished in America and are kindly treated to us. By the way, it is sometimes believed that the Americans are an aggressive and evil nation. There is nothing like this, one should not confuse the external rather firm US policy with the behavior of a simple American – these are completely different things. Americans, as a rule, are very open, friendly, smiling – remind Canadians in this sense, only the latter are more polite and always apologize. And we always feel very well in the USA.
I was once asked the question: “Sergei, now you live in Canada. Do you regret this, or would you like to still live in the US? “- I never regretted that I live in Canada, I really like this country. Would I like to live in America? At the moment I think that no, because I’m used to Canada, I’m very comfortable here. But at the same time, I am very positive about the United States. We once talked with my wife about the move to America, and I think that there would have been no problem, and we would have taken root there, lived the same 17-18 years, and also felt great in this country. And if there were any difficulties, we would have found ways to get around them.
I asked questions several times in my videos, and it seemed to me that people reacted quite actively to this, which gave me a definite idea about the fact that sometimes they would like to discuss different topics, and not just be as spectators. So I wanted to listen to your opinion, especially if you live in Canada or the US. What do you think, what are the pros and cons of these countries for you? And if there is a desire, then write about it below under the video. I will be interested to know your opinion.
